We have lived in our house for just over 9 years. Since moving in we have heard all sorts of stories about its history including people that have died here (always good to hear), that at one point it had been the village green grocers (explains all the apple trees), that it has a triangle window to keep out bad spirits (very glad about this) and loads of other lovely things to do with our pile of bricks.
When repainting the outside of the house we also uncovered an old advertisement (which I now wish we had restored rather than painted over) for a horse and carriage coach company owned by the same guy who built the house back in the 1800’s. The history of our house and the surrounding village is incredible.
Knowing our house at some point served locals is funny as now it acts more like a domestic farm. I have 3 cats, 2 kids, a dog and a husband. Boo (cat 1) is a black moggy. He is 14 years old. Not very loving, shows some affection during the winter months otherwise spends his life hunting mice and sleeping under the stars. Barnabus (cat 2) is 4. He is a bear. Has a grumpy face with pointy ears, a long tail, a belly that almost touches the floor and no doubt about it he is a real life bear. Barney is soft, would definitely win in a fight and he could absolutely eat you. Rufus (cat 3) is 3 and the fluffiest, floofiest, loving ball of fur I’ve ever known. Although since turning 4 Barney is giving him a run for his money and turned up the sop-ometer a notch or 3. Ruffy is scared of the world and everything in it apart from his humans. Everything else is danger. Full stop.
Then there is Lottie Dog. 8 months old and joined our mad house back in July.
Wouldn’t change her for the world. Although maybe make her less spanger-roo. We think she was born with pogo sticks for bones. And maybe get her to wipe her mouth after she has a drink. We constantly have wet socks. There’s the crusty ears too. They are dipped in her food, dragged through mud and trodden on as she sniffs all the smells. She has spots like a cow, talks like a moose and plods like a donkey.
She’s hairy and smelly and barks at the cats, she wags like no one is watching, howls at the wall when she thinks she’s alone, loves to play tug and does the best shakey head thing we’ve ever seen, she gives all the kisses – ears and feets are her favourites. She has a centre parting, super soft coat and a mop that any surfer dude would die for.
No 19 – grocery shop to farm house.
