Bowling and a new book

As a project manager by profession you’d think my ability to plan things in my personal life would come easily but the truth is, it doesn’t.

We are terrible at making plans as a family. My husband can plan road trips to the endth degree and I myself love to organise dinner dates or girls time but when it comes to family days out to be honest, we are shit.

Everything is last minute which means we always pay the top fee for everything, none of these early bird passes here unless they are for a motorshow booked months in advance.

We’ve had national trust membership for years but fail to actually ever get our arses up and out and visit all the incredible places we could. This will hopefully change this year as we now have a Lottie and a Defender to get around in, to make venturing out and about with a muddy mutt much easier.

Today is a perfect example where we were gearing ourselves up for going to do something but I forgot Lottie had day care, that is until her chauffer Matt (sounds way more glamorous than it is) turned up while I was still in my pyjama bottoms, faded hollister hoody, unbrushed hair and teeth, slurping on cold tea to whisk her off for a day of doggy fun with her best friend Moose.

After a lazy morning and lots of faffing it got to 2pm and we jumped in the car and made our way up to Strike in Wandsworth where we went to play a game of bowling and a cheeky round or 2 of shuffleboard.

Apparently, for once we were early, our last minute booking was at 3:30, so we stopped off at Megans for an avo and toast and a smoothie, although they didnt have the ingredients for said smoothie and my husband goaded me with the idea of a prosecco, however yesterday I quietly made a deal with myself to stay dry for January, and maybe a while longer, so ordered a diet coke instead.

Turns out Elliott loved shuffleboard the last time we came, so he showed a little bit of enthusiasm at being torn away from fortnite and actually coming out with us to do something other than button smash while being dressed as snoop dog and being chased by a skibidee toilet.

Also last time we visited we were graced with Jensons presence, doesnt happen very often these days unless he wants free food or beer, and I found out that I am actually very good at darts of all things! Shame he was working and couldnt be tempted with a rematch.

It wasnt all last minute larry, late lunch, ten pins and curling today, one bonus of always being the first up in our house is that I get an hour to myself most mornings and today I decided to start reading a book. I used to love reading but then other stuff just got in the way and its been years since I actually committed to a good read rather than opting to doom scroll through social media.

This particular book is something I picked up last year along side Matthew Perry, Pete Wicks and Gunter Steiner. This one is less autobiography and more Alcoholics Annoymous.

We were watching The Diary of a CEO where Steven Bartlett interviewed Dynamo. He was talking about his mental health due to various things and recommended reading this book. Not because he had a problem with alcohol but because the stories shared helped him put his own trauma and grief in to perspective and sometimes we all need a little perspective. Im looking forward to navigating my way through 550 something pages and working on some self-awareness and internal reflection along the way.
